Panajachel is a hotspot for anyone visiting Lago de Atitlan. You can see the coast of the lake from this street view. Up the steps is the Museo Lacustre Atitlan which is inside the Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo. This museum has displays on the history of the Atitlan region and the volcanic eruptions that created its landscape. It also has a collection of ancient artifacts recovered from the lake.
North Acropolis in Tikal
Tikal is home to the ruins of the Great Mayan Kingdom and North Acropolis is one of the oldest ruins around. The Maya built and rebuilt on top of older structures, and the many layers, combined with the elaborate burials of Tikal’s early rulers, added sanctity and power to their temples. The final version of the acropolis had more than 12 temples atop a vast platform.
The Santa Catalina Arch is Antigua’s most iconic monument with views framing Volcan Agua that are a must for any keepsake photo. It was built in 1694 to enable nuns from the Santa Catalina convent to cross the street without being seen. The clock tower is an add on from the 19th century.
